Stolas

Stolas – (Set time: 10:30 PM)
We are Stolas [stoh-less] from Las Vegas, NV. We have an EP titled “Losing Wings” that is now available under our Music tab. http://stolas.bandcamp.com/
Mylets – (Set time: 9:45 PM)
Under the moniker Mylets, Henry Kohen takes on the roles of several musicians at once. The wunderkind guitarist who, at 17, became the youngest artist signed to Sargent House has since established his reputation as an awe-inspiring and agile performer, playing across North America and Europe multiple times over the past couple of years.

Dancing across multiple guitar pedals that line the stage, Kohen also sings and lays down guitar loops while simultaneously tapping out beats on a drum machine. Nothing is pre-programmed. Every note played is as organic and fallible as its performer. Kohen’s physicality and presence is captivating on stage, but what’s even more impressive is that his songwriting talent is equally as vast and varied as his multitasking skills.

Arizona is the defining work of a masterful tunesmith. Despite their complexity, the songs are never disrupted by the intricacies running beneath their hyper-infectious pop structures. Kohen operates his equipment like the conductor of a small orchestra, summoning fully realized melodies from his devices. “I put in a lot of effort to make every single word and note of each song as deliberate and concise as I could,” Kohen explains, “rather than throw out an unintelligible overflow of information.”

Album opener “Trembling Hands” is a massive, hook-heavy anthem driven by layers of churning guitars and distortion that stirs somewhere between the throaty verses of Broken-era Nine Inch Nails to the hymnal anxiety of a Cloud Nothings record. The title track follows with a cascade of syncopated guitar arpeggios setting the stage for a reverse-reverb soaked vocal harmony that chimes like something off of U2’s Unforgettable Fire. And, that’s the beauty here: Mylets appeals to every listener, not just other musicians. Kohen understates his unparalleled and highly specific skills and instead forces the emotion informing his music to the forefront. This ability is what makes the songs on Arizona command repeat listens.

Mylets first came to Sargent House’s attention with a series of self-released solo EPs, much of which were remastered and compiled on the label’s 2013 release Retcon. Around that time, Kohen relocated from Columbus, Indiana to Los Angeles, residing at the artist-friendly Sargent House all the while working intensively on prepping Arizona material for the studio. In the interim, Mylets also toured extensively on different continents with And So I Watch You From Afar, TTNG and Emma Ruth Rundle. “Because of the range of time spent writing, it was very important for me to capture the concepts of creative and personal growth within the songs on the record,” Kohen says. “I recorded the album twice under very different circumstances in 2014 and on the second round of studio time, I left with a product that I felt was as true of a representation of what was initially in my head as I could have created.”

Arizona will be available everywhere on LP, CD and download via Sargent House on April 21st, 2015.

Icarus The Owl – (Set time: 9:00 PM)

Equal parts ferocious guitar lines and infectious melodies, Icarus are sure to surprise at every turn.”

Whitehurst is known for singing lead in her previous bands: Tsunami Bomb (punk) and The Action Design (power pop).

Lungs & Limbs
Lungs and Limbs are an alt pop band from the San Francisco Bay Area. Known for their thick, hip-hop-and-80’s-inspired beats, cowboy guitar licks and hook-laden vocals, the quartet’s debut EP Lifelike (2015), written and recorded in a horse stable, garnered positive press from critics in the Bay Area, Boston, LA, Germany and beyond. Do the Bay describes Lungs and Limbs as “…a tight, clean sound that is refreshing to hear in a sea of lo-fi garage rock that seems to sometimes dominate the local music scene in SF.” On June 17 Lungs and Limbs will debut Less Ordinary, the first single from their upcoming follow-up EP, Big Bang, with a release party at Neck of the Woods in San Francisco.

Sirsy

Sirsy – (Set time: 9:00 PM)
The Boston Globe sums it up, “Little band. Big Sound.” No more needs to be said. Although the only thing “little” about Sirsy is there are just two of them. The rest is bigger than balls on a buffalo.

Listen to the power in their latest recording “Coming Into Frame”. You can feel it. It’s crank-up the volume music, even when the heartfelt ballads kick in. And why so much power? Melanie Krahmer on drums and vocals, Rich Libutti on guitar. That’s why.

And, according to Sirsy a lot of credit goes to Grammy-winning producers, Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade (Hole, Radiohead, Dresden Dolls, Pixies). According to Melanie, known as Mel to fans and friends alike, “Our fans have said that the energy of our live show hasn’t translated onto our previous recordings. They are going to notice a different energy level on this record and it’s because of how Paul and Sean worked with us.”

Do you know what a click track is? It’s like a metronome and is used in recording to keep things perfect. Some believe it can take away from the spontaneity of a recording artist. According to Mel, “On some tracks, Paul and Sean didn’t use a click track on purpose. The result is a few of the songs vary in tempo to suit the mood and energy of the song.” In other words the recording is real. Rich, the highly talented guitarist for Sirsy says, “It seems ridiculous to remove tempo changes. Listen to ‘The Cost Of You’. It speeds up at the end. That gives it the intensity there.”

So “power” and “real” are the key words to describe the new recording and Sirsy itself. As Aftertaste Magazine said regarding Mel, “Bursting and belting out emotion and substance, she can be the queen of ‘in the groove’ rocking or be simple and delicate.” And get this, she also plays a full drum kit while standing up (she’s been featured in Modern Drummer Magazine), handles bass (played on a keyboard with her drumstick), and even throws in an occasional flute solo. Rich Libutti plays everything else, including seething guitar; bass (on a keyboard at his feet); and he is the anchor to Melanie’s on stage tornado. Just the two of them because, “We never found other musicians who understood”, according to Rich.

And they write. They write clever, smart songs that have more hooks than a tackle box. They both write the music. Mel takes care of the lyrics and they might set you back a few feet. They could even be called “dark” which is weird because when you talk with this duo the conversation is usually littered with laughs. But Mel says, “Calling the lyrics dark is appropriate, or maybe introspective says it better.” She is a student of the English language and lyrics are a natural art to her. But she studies before the work begins. “I do love to listen to other artists to get inspired lyrically.” Like Coldplay, or a somewhat obscure Irish band called The Frames. And, at times when a “more down home feel is needed”, Bruce Springsteen.

“I listened to a Jackson Browne tune ‘Shape of A Heart’,” Mel said, “and immediately wrote the words to our song, ‘Gold’.” “I didn’t take anything directly from his song, but it set a mood for me.” In “The Cost of You”, there is a poetic line which says, “But I spent the cost of you”. It calls to mind, the Joni Mitchell song, “Case Of You”. But Joni’s drinking a case of him and still standing on her feet. Mel’s had it up to here. She’s done.

Sirsy plays over 200 shows a year, bringing their indie rock sound to the masses and are about to expand nationally. “Coming Into Frame” will bring them beyond their east coast/mid-west comfort zone and into new territory including the south, and west coast. You will normally find them in the headline slot but they have also been special guests of such musical stalwarts as Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Maroon5, Train, RaRaRiot, Boys Like Girls, Third Eye Blind, Lifehouse, Blues Traveler, Cheap Trick, and many more.

Although the lyrics can be a little dark or introspective and the power of Sirsy can get pretty intense, “there is no sadness there”, Mel says. “On stage we radiate joy. It’s just us being free and playing music.”

“Coming Into Frame” is on Funzalo Records.

Iggy is nothing less than amazing on the stage. The lineup is rounded off with the addition of Todd D. Bishop on guitar duties and the thunderous heavy hitting of Sandy on drums, the aggression and stage antics of Whiplash on bass and Adam Rawlings on keyboards and backing vocals completing the lineup. 5 guys with a deep passion for all that is Ozzy and his great history of music. OZZ has arrived. Let the madness begin.

Golden Dawn Arkestra

The Warplanes
Though most of the band hails from north-ish Houston, The Warplanes did not come together until making their way to our musically inclined mistress of a city. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Isaac James Routh, keyboardist/vocalist Luke Dalton, bassist Jesse J. Flores, drummer/percussionist Aric Garcia, and lead guitarist Matt Germeyer.

“Their music has a large blues influence with touches of southern, psych, and indie rock. Throw in Isaac’s haunting voice and they have a sound that I’ve dubbed “phantom rock.” I make up genres, no big deal.”

-Landon McCampbell, UWeekly Austin

Clay Melton Band

Clay Melton Band
Ask any of the thousands of fans who’ve been energized by Clay Melton Band’s high octane shows throughout their home state of Texas, and they’ll usually use names like John Mayer and Foo Fighters to describe their explosive vibe. But dig deeper into Clay’s musical journey and you’ll hit on that classic moment at age 11 when he heard Jimi Hendrix’s “All Along The Watchtower” and his world quickly changed.

Influenced further by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, Clay was being hailed as a young master guitarist by his mid-teens. The Dallas International Guitar Festival proclaimed Clay “one of the TOP 10 Guitar Players in Texas under 20 years old” after his performance brought down the house.

More recently, Clay Melton Band has received phenomenal feedback on their new EP from industry greats such as Grammy winning producer Jared Lee Gosselin (Velvet Revolver, Frank Zappa, Macy Gray) who said, “This kid is a force of nature!”

Also a Grammy-winning producer, Joel Soyffer (Joe Cocker, Doobie Brothers, Aloe Blacc) mixed and mastered the EP at Coney Island Studios.

Now well past the “teenage sensation” stage, 22-year-old Clay and his group, Clay Melton Band – featuring drummer Zach Grindle and bassist Raymon Minton – have developed a guitar driven pop-influenced alt-rock style that draws dynamically on his blistering Texas guitar influences.

Other tracks from the self-titled EP include “Remember,” which Clay penned at 17 and is the set’s representative “breakup song,” addressing our tendency to feed frustration rather than address real problems. “Stop & Listen” is a harmony laden power ballad tapping into the part of a relationship where one partner comes to the conclusion that he or she just doesn’t have the same desire anymore. In the song, Clay urges us to “Stop and listen to the soft sound of love, running away/So quiet in its escape/Then one day you wake/There’s nothing inside.”

The music videos for “Tonight” and “Home” were recorded at SugarHill Studios in Houston owned by Dan Workman (ZZ Top, Beyonce) who said, “I’ve had the privilege of watching Clay evolve from a gifted intuitive guitarist to a complete performer and songwriter. He has managed the hardest of Tasks: crafting a musical identity that lives up to the promise of a precocious talent.”

The Breton Sound
You could accuse the Breton Sound of creating awfully high expectations for itself if you assume that the pop/rock music audience knows its Aristotle. Eudaemonia was his term for the highest human good, but more people will likely learn that as I did (by Googling it), so the album title signals little more than these guys don’t feel obliged to dumb things down. They certainly don’t feel an obligation to keep it tight; on two of the EP’s four songs, the tracks are six minutes long or longer. “No More Worries” and “Lines” don’t seem baggy, though. The surplus of pop ideas that bounce around through the former are united in a “Champagne Supernova”-like instrumental conclusion centered on Stephen Turner’s lead guitar melody. “Lines” has a prog vibe for me cued partially by the number of distinct sections in the song and partially by Jonathan Pretus’ vocal, which echoes Phil Collins circa Trick of the Tail-era Genesis.

The ghost of Oasis makes its presence felt on occasions, more in the band’s clear love of melodic pop/rock songs and big rock ‘n’ roll guitars than in a self-conscious Anglophilia. The band makes immediately accessible music that’s designed to be the catalyst of a big crowd experience, even though the Breton Sound have played few gigs so far. Still, the shorter “Crisis or Carnival” and “Sunshine & Ragtime Pt. 2” would have benefited from more careful think-throughs. The first, like the EP title, has a whiff of cleverness that takes the edge off an otherwise punchy track, while the latter uses the very familiar “bore us/chorus” rhyme, resolving verses with a lyrical commonplace.

It’s evident throughout Eudaemonia that Pretus and Turner have ideas to spare; it will be interesting to see if that means they’ll continue to write stuffed and sprawling songs, or if they’ll deploy their ideas more judiciously in the future. Both possibilities have promise.

Recently reformed in 2016, after touring “300/365” from 1994-2003 and releasing 6 Full Length albums Speedeler is back to claim their turf as the kings of the rock n roll underground.
Their song “Screamer / Nothing to Me” was featured on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 soundtrack

2002’s album was produced by Jason Newstead.
Toured with: Motorhead, Morbid Angel, Reverend Horton Heat, Gwar, The Misfits, Zeke, Nashville Pussy, Fear, Karma to Burn, Murphys Law, The Hookers and many more.

Speedealer originally formed in 1994 in Lubbock, TX, under the name REO Speedealer. When REO Speedwagon served the band a cease-and-desist order on their moniker, they shortened their name to Speedealer. In 1998, the band released their debut, self-titled album on Royalty Records. The following year, the hard rocking foursome — made up of singer/guitarist Jeff Hirshberg, bassist Rodney Skelton, drummer Harden Harrison, and guitarist Eric Schmidt — released their follow-up record, Here Comes Death, on the same label. Royalty Records went bankrupt soon after the band’s second release, leaving Speedealer to their own devices for exposure. Label-less and musically driven, they played 309 shows in 1999 to stay in the public eye, pairing up with such like-minded, aggressive rockers as Zeke, Fu Manchu, Neurosis, and GWAR. Speedealer’s efforts finally paid off when Palm Records A&R; man Michael Alago (who signed Metallica to Elektra and White Zombie to Geffen) contracted the band to his label.

Mothership

Heavy Rock from Dallas TX

Supersonic intergalactic heavy rock trio Mothership based out of Dallas, Texas give a real sense of hope that all is well in the universe, and that pure honest rock and roll has once again returned to this planet on a mission to unite true believers. Mothership’s goal from the beginning has been to carry on the tradition of the classic rock style of the ’70′s, updated and amped up for the modern day. The band has been non-stop road warriors since the release of their debut album in February 2013 on Ripple Music successfully invading the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Europe playing either on festival stages, night clubs, or outdoors under the sun at motorcycle parties.
